A full moon gift from Sanctuary by the Sea

Water Peace Meditation

A 26-minute guided meditation for Sharad Purnima, the full moon in Ashwini, offered with love and gratitude to our community.

How are you, beloved community?

I have been sitting with so much gratitude for you. In a season when the world feels heavy, you keep showing up for your own healing and for one another, and it moves me more than I can say.

Sharad Purnima, the full moon of the autumn month of Ashvin, came to fullness this year in Ashwini, the nakshatra of the Ashvini Kumaras. These twin physicians of the Vedic tradition are the healers who arrive when someone is lost in deep water. So many of us feel out in deep water right now, and it felt like the right night to pray for peace.

So I recorded this meditation for the Water Peace Project, and I would love for you to have it as a gift, with my thanks for being part of this circle.

Before you begin, find a place where you can rest undisturbed for about half an hour, sitting or lying down, whatever feels kindest to your body. If you can, keep a bowl or a glass of water close by. Near the end we breathe our love and our wishes for peace into it, and you may drink it, offer it to the earth, or leave it out beneath the moon overnight.

The practice includes a gentle pranayama with a brief breath retention. If you are pregnant, or living with uncontrolled high blood pressure or glaucoma, simply breathe in and out at a steady rhythm without holding.

Inside the meditation

We arrive slowly, letting the earth hold us, and settle into the breath. We meet the Ashvini Kumaras and the swift medicine of this moon. Then we turn inward to the waters we are made of, to the blood and lymph, to the fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord, and to the water around the heart, held gently inside the pericardium.

From there we breathe together in Sama Vritti pranayama and rest in a long, spacious silence. We let the love we carry for this world gather in the heart, and we send peace outward through the waters, to the people we love and to the places on this earth where suffering is greatest.

We close with the ancient Shanti mantra of the Yajur Veda, a prayer for peace that remembers the waters by name. Āpaḥ śāntiḥ. Peace to the waters.

This project draws part of its inspiration from Dr. Masaru Emoto and his deep reverence for water and the gift he left us, a reminder to speak to water, to each other and to ourselves, with care.

Thank you for being awake with me, for tending your own heart, and for carrying these wishes for peace into the world. May the peace you touch here stay with you, and may it travel through the waters to wherever it is needed.

With all my love,
Jeanette
